The process of chromium plating or galvanization (popularly known as chrome plating) involves the use of electrolysis for binding a thin plate of chromium onto another object, usually another metal that is easily corroded. Although not substantial, chromium is found in nature and it will be hard for you to find anything made out of chromium alone. The chrome plating process provides a mirror like, high gloss metallic surface to industrial, household, and bathroom, motorcycle and automobile objects. Chrome plating helps to reduce friction on applied surfaces and protect metals. The process is carried out using highly carcinogenic, volatile and toxic elements that produce hazardous waste.
custom drawing wiresFor most part, chrome is used for two main reasons. The first is for aesthetics purposes. When applied as a decorative, chrome is applied in very thin layers. When used in combination with bright nickel plating, the result is a more eye pleasing appearance that is even shinier. The other reason why chrome is used is to offer some level of protection. This process is called hard chrome and is mostly used in industrial and automotive applications. This process requires application of significantly thicker layers and the metals have a textured surface as a result of the treatment.
chromium plating or galvanizationChromium plating or galvanization typically involves degreasing to remove any heavy soiling followed by removing all residual traces of surface impurities and dirt through manual cleaning. Several pre-treatments are carried out depending on the base metal before it is placed in the chrome plating vat where it warms to solution temperature. The final process involves application of plating current for some time to achieve the required thickness.
We produce a wide range of items made of steel wire. Our products have no sharp edges to guarantee maximum safety, according to the UNI CEI EN ISO 13488 standards. Our products undergo pickling treatments to eliminate any debris from the refinishing processes, as well as other finishing treatments like electrolytic polishing and Rilsan or polyethylene coating.
Toffoli SpA is a certified company. As a matter of fact, we are UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 and UNI EN ISO 14001:2008 certified, and our materials are certified as well.
