Stainless steel pickling is a chemical treatment process that is meant to remove the high temperature scales produced during hot working, heat treatment and welding. It is a vital process in the removal of red rust from corroding steel or removal of contaminant steel or iron particles. It is important to note here that passivation is not as efficient in the removal of the corrosion product once a free iron begins to rust. For aesthetic reasons, the high temperature dark scale is not desirable and it can also result in a reduction of the corrosion resistance of the steel surface.
steel gratingsDue to the discoloration caused by the oxide layer or scale on a surface, the item has to be dipped in a vat of pickle liquor. The primary acid in use is mainly hydrochloric acid, but sulfuric acid was once a preferred chemical. Although hydrochloric acid is much more expensive compared to sulfuric acid, it pickles faster and minimizes the base metal loss. For carbon steels with alloy content equal to or less than 6%, they are pickled in either sulfuric or hydrochloric acid. Steels with alloy content of more than 6% have to be pickled in two steps through application of other acids like hydrofluoric, nitric and phosphoric acid.
stainless steel picklingStainless steel pickling purification systems have been developed and help in the reduction of waste. Such systems have seen a rise in environmental compliance, improved product quality, increased productivity and even safer safety conditions.
We produce a wide range of items made of steel wire. Our products have no sharp edges to guarantee maximum safety, according to the UNI CEI EN ISO 13488 standards. Our products undergo pickling treatments to eliminate any debris from the refinishing processes, as well as other finishing treatments like electrolytic polishing and Rilsan or polyethylene coating.
Toffoli SpA is a certified company. As a matter of fact, we are UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 and UNI EN ISO 14001:2008 certified, and our materials are certified as well.
