What are TIG MIG welding stations? Welding is the process of joining metal parts together without fitting. MIG welding refers to gas metal arc welding while TIG refers to gas tungsten arc welding. These two welding techniques use a gas to shield the weld paddle from the atmosphere. Atmospheric gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen can cause defects to the weld. Thus carbon dioxide is used in welding stations to shield the weld. There are outstanding differences between these two welding stations.

Difference between TIG and MIG welders

In TIG welding, the welding expert can either use filler metals or do without them. This is not the case with MIG welding where filler metals are required to carry out a weld. MIG welds are clean and require little or no post-clean up. MIG welding produces spatter while in TIG welding spatter is not produced. In TIG welding, argon gas is either used alone or in combination with hydrogen or helium to provide shielding gas. MIG welding on the other hand uses argon or combines the gas with oxygen, helium or carbon dioxide to provide shielding gas.

Considerations when setting up TIG MIG welding stations

There are a few considerations that you needed to make when setting up these stations. To start with, you need to understand that both welding techniques can result in incomplete fusion, excessive melt-through and incomplete joint penetration. You also need to note that both welding methods can present difficulties in producing a starting arc.
